Hudson Common Council rejects fracking ban

Dec 19, 2012 12:10 am
Joe Gentile reports in the Register Star the Hudson Common Council Tues., Dec. 18, rejected a move to ban the practice of hydraulic fracturing, along with other oil, gas or solution mining practices, within the city. The proposal also contested the transport of large volumes of water and waste water by truck through city streets, declaring the negative impact on the city's historic, cultural, scenic and natural resources would undermine the local economy. Fifth Ward Alderman Carmine Pierro cited the state's ongoing review of the health impacts of the process as the reason behind his "no" vote. That assessment delays any final decisions about hydrofracking until next year, he said. The Council also voted unanimously in support of a resolution calling for meaningful action from state and federal elected officials to halt gun violence in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary mass shooting, Fri., Dec. 14.
