Cairo begins water system overhaul
Amanda Purcell is reporting in The Daily Mail some residents of Cairo could see changes in their water bills thanks to a new, more accurate, electronic metering system. The town will replace all broken and nonfunctioning water meters this year as part of the planned $3.6 million overhaul of its 100-year-old water system. Cairo Town Supervisor Daniel Benoit said some residents may see their bills increase thanks to a more accurate, electronic metering system. “Much more water can be accounted for than before. Those people who have been getting the benefit of unmetered water and readings lower than what their actual water usage is can expect a more accurate reading. Everyone will be paying for what they use,” Benoit said. In addition to the installation of new meters, the water system refurb includes securing a new water source for the town, replacement of older water pipes and an upgrade of the existing water tank. The projected is expected to be completed in 2019. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
