Ron Coulter is a percussionist, composer, improviser, and pedagogue that has performed and lectured internationally at many universities, festivals, and conferences. His interests in noise, intermedia, performance art, acoustic ecology, radio art, interdisciplinary collaboration, American experimentalism, and non-idiomatic improvisation have led to the creation of the Southern Illinois Improvisation Series and Improvisation Unit; organizing Fluxusconcerts; and co-founding REDVIXA, the Percussion Art Ensemble, Perkussiv Arts Elektronik, and duende entendre. Coulter has created more than 200 original compositions for various media encompassing numerous genres. Founded in 2001 and 2005 respectively, the Percussion Art Ensemble and SIUC Percussion Group are innovative collectives serving the creation of new percussion works and the discovery and presentation of significant work from the past.
