Radio Music

John Cage’s 1956 composition Radio Music is composed for one to eight performers using radios as instruments. Radio Music is a site reflexive work that documents place, temporality, and real-time decision making by the performers. This work may become an endangered species with the increasing use of Digital Audio Broadcasting and the potential phasing out of commercial analog radio broadcasts; or possibly relegating source material to purely noise by eliminating the diversity of music, advertising, spoken word, and multifarious noise that is currently on the airwaves.
