Today's WGXC Afternoon Show with Kieran Riley is packed with guests. First is Deven Connelly and Tracey Testo-Smith who join "WGXC Afternoon Show" host Kieran Riley over Zoom during the 4 p.m. hour for another edition of "The Month Ahead at Cornell Cooperative Extension." Then, during the 5 p.m. hour, WGXC programmers John and Alison Moses of tonight's "Message Machine" join Kieran to talk about the screening of RATS! and Close-Up conversation that Alison is participating in at Upstate Films in Saugerties on Wednesday, 3/26. Tracey, the Agroforestry and Natural Resources Program Manager at CCE, is on the Agriculture and Natural Resource Team at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties’ Agroforestry Resource Center and Siuslaw Model Forest as an Agroforestry and Natural Resource Educator. She graduated from SUNY Cobleskill’s Plant Science and Horticulture Bachelor program, has worked on many farms including the world’s largest wild-simulated ginseng farm, and manages her own forest farm. Her employment at CCE is multi-faceted, including her role as a coordinator of the NYC Watershed Trained Logger Certification Program, co-chair of the NYS Agroforestry Program Work Team, and educator of general forestry and agroforestry topics such as deer browse, mushroom cultivation, ginseng production, plant, and mushroom identification as well as foraging classes. Much of her work is applied at the organization's 142-acre watershed demonstration forest, the Siuslaw Model Forest. Tracey enjoys working with natural systems, specifically forests and streams, to build more resilient communities through education. Her passions include gardening, hiking, wild plant identification, the study of mycology, and foraging for food and medicine.Tune in for a conversation with Tracey and an overview of events and activities planned for the month ahead at Cornell Cooperative Extension in Greene and Columbia Counties.
Antonia Allegrone is a 14 year old singer songwriter, as well as dancer and actor, from the Berkshires who just released her first single, called 'No Space.' Antonia performs her original music, both vocals and piano accompaniment, around the Berkshires. Antonia has also held lead roles in musicals, allowing her to combine her passions of music, dance and theater. She has another theater performance coming up next month, just a week before her EP, called "This Time," releases on April 11th.
RATS! is a transgressive, over-the-top stoner comedy in the tradition of midnight movies like Pink Flamingos. Raphael (Luke Wilcox) is a 19-year-old kid puttering around his hometown, taking art classes at the local community college, But when he’s busted tagging an old, broken payphone booth—his mom sends him to live with his cousin, who is then suspected of possessing nuclear weapons. From there, Raphael meets a plethora of strange characters including rapper Pflophouse, Mateo’s creepy roommate Nestor, and the manic pixie emo girl of his dreams.
