Cuomo signs net neutrality order

Julia Manchester at The Hill reports that New York became the second state defying the Federal Communications Commission, with Gov. Andrew Cuomo signing an executive order Jan. 24 attacking the commission's rollback of net neutrality. On Dec. 14 the FCC repealed the open internet regulations. The order does not keep net neutrality within the state's borders -- the FCC's decision did not allow state's to pass their own laws. Instead, it bars the state government from entering into contracts with internet service providers unless the providers agree to the old net neutrality rules, which require they treat all internet traffic equally. "The FCC's dangerous ruling goes against the core values of our democracy, and New York will do everything in our power to protect net neutrality and the free exchange of ideas," Cuomo said in a statement.
