Rachel Silberstein is reporting for the Times Union U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand [JILL-ah-brand] has published a children's book about powerful women. The picture book, illustrated by artist Maira Kalman, spotlights 10 inspiring women at the center of the suffrage movement and offers a kid-friendly overview of feminist history from the ratification of the 19th Amendment to today. The Albany native will visit the University at Albany December 7, to discuss "Bold and Brave: Ten Heroes Who Won Women the Right to Vote." The book opens with stories about the matriarchs of her own family, like her grandmother Dorothea "Polly" Noonan, a well-known figure in Albany and in state politics. The book was released by Random House Children's Books ahead of the 100th anniversary next year of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the constitutional right to vote. The Albany event will begin at 7:30 p.m. December 7, at the university's Page Hall Downtown Campus. Read the full story in the Times Union.
