Survey: NYS schools among least efficient

Rick Karlin is reporting at Capitol Confidential WalletHub, which puts out a variety of economic measurements and surveys, is offering a look at the efficiency of U.S. schools. The website calculated a school's efficiency by measuring fourth and eighth grade test scores and pitting that data against the cost per-student. They made adjustments for poverty, median income, single parent families and families where English is not the primary language. Five of the 10 least-efficient school systems nationwide were located in New York, with Syracuse, New York, Buffalo, Yonkers and Rochester taking those low spots. The most efficient schools identified by the study were located in Florida, Michigan and Virginia. Read the full story at Capitol Confidential, a Times Union blog.
