Nora Mishanec is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Susan Brown, a 15-year veteran of the Germantown Central School District will retire as superintendent in October 31. She made the announcement to the board of education on June 2. The board is expected to launch its search for a successor, June 10, with the intention of finding a new superintendent by the time Brown departs. Questar III BOCES District Superintendent Gladys Cruz will lead the search. Brown chose the October departure date based on the projected completion of the district's $11.3 million capital project. School Board President Tammi Kellenbenz called Brown’s retirement well deserved. “She has always kept our students as the priority when making decisions regarding budget and personnel,” Kellenbenz said. Brown, a longtime Germantown resident, was appointed superintendent after serving for eight years as the district’s elementary principal. Before coming to Germantown, Brown had a reputation as an exceptional classroom teacher when employed by the Hudson City School District.
