Columbia County declares a state of emergency in case any migrants get bused their way

May 25, 2023 1:03 am

News10 in Albany reports that Columbia County is the latest local county to declare a state of emergency because a southern governor or a big city mayor might bus migrants there. No migrants have been bussed to Greene, Columbia, Albany, or Rensselaer counties, but they have now all declared a state of emergency because someone might. Columbia County Board of Supervisors Chair Matt Murell said the order is to “preserve public safety and hereby render all required and available assistance vital to the security, well-being, and health of the citizens of the county.” Murell also listed his county's shortcomings, saying, “As a county with no homeless shelter and being chronically short of hotel/motel space, we have already been required to house some homeless in other counties.... In addition, Columbia County already faces medical care and transportation shortages.” Read more about this story at the News10 website.
