Nov 23, 2012 7:17 am
Ariel Zangla reports in the Daily Freeman Greene County legislators are calling for the state to enact stricter mandatory sentencing laws against convicted child molesters. At its meeting Wed., Nov. 20, the county Legislature unanimously adopted a resolution calling for the state to enact a statewide mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison, and a lifetime of electronic monitoring upon conviction of committing a lewd or lascivious act against any child under the age of 12. The premise is the state should take more control over the way offenders are treated, said county Legislator William Lawrence, Republican of Cairo. Lawrence chairs the Legislature's Public Safety Committee. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman. Note: Lawrence was a participant in a recent WGXC outreach event held in Durham.
