Roger Hannigan Gilson is reporting in the Register-Star Ryan Skoda has been chosen the new Taghkanic Town Supervisor. Columbia County Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murrell said Skoda was voted in by the three other members of the town board following the resignation of Erik Tyree. He will serve out the remainder of Tyree's term, through the end of 2017. Skoda, 30, is a Taghkanic native. He was elected to the Taghkanic Planning Board 10 years ago and served as its chairman until he was elected to the town board in 2013. Skoda runs his family's farm, Triple Creek Dairy. He defined his priorities for Taghkanic as taxes and broadband access. “My main priority, even as a [town] council member, was to keep taxes as low as possible,” he said. Asked about the state plan to give all New Yorkers access to high-speed internet by 2018, Skoda said he had his doubts of if it would produce for his town. “I think it’s a good plan in theory, I’m not sold whether we will be able to benefit from it,” he said. “Right now we’re holding our breath,” he added. Skoda will serve on the Board of Supervisors Public Works and County Government committees, Murell said. Read the full story in the Register-Star.
