Patricia Doxsey is reporting in the Daily Freeman the Ulster County Legislature went on the record Tue., Feb. 17, in opposition to the proposed 178-mile Pilgrim Pipeline. That pipeline would pass through the county on its way from Albany to New Jersey. Lawmakers overwhelmingly voted in favor of calling on the state Thruway Authority to reject the use of its right of way for the pipeline. More than a dozen county residents attended the meeting of the Legislature Tuesday, to ask lawmakers to formally oppose the proposal. The line would carry Bakken crude from Albany to Linden, N.J., following the Thruway corridor. Refined crude products would be returned to Albany via a parallel line. The resolution adopted by lawmakers says the pipeline “threatens important surface water resources,” “potentially threatens the health, safety and welfare of the community; could decrease the values of homes located along its route and in surrounding neighborhoods and could negatively impact future development in Ulster County.” Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
