The National Weather Service in Albany has a Flash Flood Watch in effect for northwestern Connecticut, western Massachusetts, east central New York and southern Vermont, including Columbia and Greene counties, beginning 8 a.m. Mon., July 1, through the evening of Tues., July 2. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will move into eastern New York and western New England Monday morning. The coverage of showers and thunderstorms should increase as they spread north across the region. The rain should continue to be heavy at times into Tuesday, before finally tapering off Tuesday evening. Rainfall amounts of one to three inches will be common with isolated amounts up to five inches possible. A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
