Michael Ryan is reporting in The Daily Mail Windham town supervisor Stacy Post has rejected a plea deal presented by special prosecutor John Sandleitner. The former Windham police chief has been charged with felony eavesdropping. Post turned the offer down during an appearance before Judge James H. Robinson, Jr. in Athens town court Thu., Jan. 29. Sandleitner said the offer would have reduced the charges and allowed Post to resign as supervisor. She would have also been expected to sign a general release to shield the town, the town board and town employees from potential civil action. Defense attorney Dennis Schlenker rejected the proposal, saying the court cannot impose a judgment that would alter Post's role as town supervisor. Post was duly elected by Windham voters, Schlenker noted. "The battle is on," he said. Post was released on her own recognizance following her Jan. 12 arraignment, and is free to continue serving as supervisor unless convicted of a felony. Police allege Post placed recording devices in her town hall office to eavesdrop on employees and others. The case is now scheduled to be presented to a Greene County grand jury, Feb. 18.
