Windham allows business signs

Carly Miller reports in Columbia-Greene Media that on May 10 Windham updated their 2005 sign law, and now allow sandwich board signs. Now 25-by-45-inch signs freestanding triangle-shaped boards are allowed within 300 feet of their building during business hours. They must go inside during snowstorms. “It’s the culmination of more than half a year of going back and forth and getting input,” Councilperson Ian Peters said. “We’re keeping our laws modern and up-to-date with what’s happening in the town, having government-responsive laws like the ban on digital signs.” Councilperson Don Murray said, “There are 47 businesses from [Route] 296 to the end of South Street on Route 23 alone.... If everyone decided to put out a sandwich board, that would be kind of ridiculous.” Businesses must apply for a special-use or two-year permit for the signs.
