Republicans honor Haggerty for service to veterans

Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star the Columbia County Young Republican Club recently honored Jim Haggerty, a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran and the founder of the Capital Region Veterans Stand-Down, an initiative to help homeless veterans. Haggerty was presented with the Lincoln Day Award at the 50th annual Lincoln Day Dinner held at Kozel's Restaurant in West Ghent. Haggerty said he was inspired to reach out to the local veterans after reading about the hundreds of thousands of homeless veterans nationwide. Haggerty currently works as the District Veterans Director for U.S. Congressman Chris Gibson. Elizabeth Young of Taghkanic was also honored for her 25 years of service as supervisor.
