Frigid day ahead; Wind Chill Advisory in effect

Jan 07, 2014 12:15 am
The cold temperatures over the central U.S. will be moving into the eastern third of the country, Tues., Jan. 7, behind a strong cold front that is exiting into the Atlantic. The cold temperatures along with gusty winds will result in dangerously cold wind chills across most of the Eastern Seaboard. Locally, a Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect for the Greater Capital District, Mohawk and Schoharie valleys, southeast Adirondacks, Taconics and the Mid-Hudson Valley, through 10 a.m., Wed., Jan. 8. Wind chill readings may drop to less than -15 or -29. West winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts of 35 to 45 mph, are possible. A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
