Watch for flooding today and tomorrow
Feb 28, 2011 9:07 am
The National Weather Service has declared a Flood Watch through tonight as rain in the Hudson Valley, Catskills, and Berkshire/Taconic region could dump one to two inches of rain as a warm front moves in. A second area of rain with scattered thunderstorms is then forecast to move in from the southwest in the afternoon and early evening hours. The rainfall combined with the nearly saturated grounds from the one to two inches of rain that fell on Friday, as well as remaining snow cover, will exacerbate the flood threat, the NWS said. The mild weather and rain has allowed for the formation of ice jams and the buildup of water behind them can result in flooding upstream, as well as downstream if they give way.
