[caption id="" align="alignright" width="319" caption="From Rasputina website."][/caption]Hudson can now definitely claim cello-driven trio Rasputina as its own. A press release announcing a tour for their new album "Sister Kinderhook" says [Rasputina leader] "Melora [Creager] produced and engineered the thing at her homestead in the country. Hudson, NY is home to many fabulous female artists that gained notoriety in the 1990s, including Melora, Melissa Auf Der Maur, and M'Shell N'Degeocello." The band will kick off the latest leg of its tour Feb. 17 at Helsinki Hudson. Creager grew up in Kansas moved to New York City at 18 to study photography at Parsons School of Design. She began playing cello with the 4AD band, Ultra Vivid Scene, and eventually forming Rasputina, touring with Nirvana, and releasing six albums on Columbia, Instinct, and their own Filthy Bonnet Recording Co. label. The New York Times and others have recently touted Hudson as home to diverse internationally-recognized stars such as the ones mentioned above and Alexander Turnquist and Bunnybrains; and emerging talents such as Lady Moon, Liv Carrow, and Evan Randall. The meme has Hudson becoming a miniature-Austin, Texas, in terms of its music scene.
