Some of the stories that made the news, Nov. 8 to Nov. 11:

Barbara Reina reported in the Register Star the Kinderhook Town Board announced Thurs., Nov. 7, the Kinderhook Town Hall located in Niverville will be auctioned off Dec. 7. Supervisor Pat Grattan will serve as auctioneer. The minimum bid on the building and approximately 5.2 acres of land is set at $140,000. A first attempt to sell the former town hall was unsuccessful. The town moved its offices into the Martin H. Glynn Municipal Center in Valatie in the spring. Proceeds from the sale of the former town hall will be put toward municipal center maintenance, according to a municipal cooperation agreement between the town and the village of Valatie. Brian Hubert reported in The Daily Mail on the scheduled creation of a Cairo-Durham Central School District strategic plan during the coming months. Cairo-Durham Superintendent Mary Fassett anticipates that approximately 30 community members will participate as members of the committee and help draft the plan during the course of two full-work days and two evenings. Fassett said a variety of stakeholders will be recruited to participate, including teachers, board members and staff, but also students, grandparents, business owners and residents without children enrolled in the district. The district is expected to make more information available online at its Web site, cairodurham.org in the very near future.

The Daily Freeman reported two “Save Energy, Save Dollars” workshops will be held to help consumers learn how to lower their energy consumption using no-cost or low-cost conservation methods. The first workshop will be held Nov. 18 at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties’ Agroforestry Resource Center in Acra. The second workshop will take place Dec. 5 at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties’ Education Center in Hudson. Information on available energy assistance programs will be provided and articipants will receive three free compact fluorescent light bulbs.
