Emilia Teasdale is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Ichabod Crane school board at its October 6 public meeting, appointed Ruth Moore to fill the board vacancy created by the resignation of Jessica Berner, who resigned in September. Moore will serve until May 2021. The meeting was held in person and via Zoom. School board President Matthew Nelson thanked those who expressed interest in the open seat. He said the district received several responses, and met with two of the candidates at a special meeting September 29. Nelson said Moore will bring a tremendous amount of experience to the board. Until recently, Moore served as executive director of the Cornell Cooperative Extension for Dutchess County. At the same meeting the board's student representative, Erin Curry, updated everyone on how the school reopening has gone. She said the students are all happy to see their teachers again, and noted the online remote learning programs have improved greatly since the spring, when the district buildings were closed abruptly due to the pandemic. This year, all students in grades 6 through 12, have in-person classes two days a week and online classes three days a week. Students in kindergarten through grade 5 are in school five days a week. Students also had the choice to attend school only remotely. “The screen breaks and the mask breaks have been very helpful,” she said of the program. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
