The Schoharie News interviews New York State Assemblyman Pete Lopez (R-Schoharie), who says he is not officially running for Congress yet, may announce soon. The Daily Mail reported April 15 that Lopez was running for the seat that Chris Gibson (R-Kinderhook) is giving up in 2016. If he does run, it will be on flood recovery, common core, and the SAFE Act, the report says, but that he would not run unless he could "remain focused on my job as an Assemblyman, because that's my highest priority." Besides Lopez, State Senator James Seward, Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin, and former Assembly Minority Leader John Faso have been mentioned as potential Republican candidates in other media accounts.
