G. Scott Thomas reports in Buffalo Business First teachers in the Greenville Central School district are among the highest paid in upstate New York. Greenville ranked third statewide behind Remsen (Oneida Co.) and Albany, based on an analysis of New York State Education Department data for 2011. Greenville pays a median teacher salary of nearly $68,000 per year. The Germantown, Coxsackie-Athens, and Hudson districts all ranked in the top 10 percent of the 430 districts examined. All but two districts in Columbia and Greene counties -- Taconic Hills and Hunter-Tannersville -- placed in the top 50 percent statewide. The twin counties did not fare as well in an accompanying academic analysis. Windham-Ashland-Jewett was the highest ranked local district, coming in 29th among 84 in the Albany area. Hudson was 82 on the list, the third worst performing district in the region, behind Schenectady and Albany. The majority of districts in Columbia and Greene counties placed near the middle.
