State moving forward with cashless tolling
Feb 26, 2020 1:15 pm
WNYT-TV is reporting on the progress being made on the state's $355 million conversion to cashless tolling on the New York State Thruway. The Thruway Authority held a news conference February 26, in front of a new toll reader installed the day before in Selkirk at Exit 22. The 23-foot-tall structure includes sensors and cameras, which placed above the highway, will read E-ZPass tags as they pass underneath. So far, only two of these readers have been installed. Eventually, 70 of the structures will be built statewide. For vehicles without an E-ZPass, cameras will take a photo of the license plate and a bill then sent to the owner in the mail.
