Windham voters approve $4 million loan

Michael Ryan in The Daily Mail reports voters in the Windham-Ashland-Jewett school district approved a measure 213-50 Tue. Nov. 22 to get $4 million in loans to pay for repairs after Hurricane Irene-associated flooding this past August. FEMA and New York State should pay back 87.5 percent of those costs, which, hopefully, will turn out to be less then $4 million. "The school library has not yet reopened and floors in the cafetorium and gymnasium need restoration. Rehabilitation of the athletic fields, which were buried under tons of stream silt and rock, will be completed gradually while stormwater drainage and flood mitigation efforts simultaneously unfold," Ryan writes.
