State Senate votes to cut SAFE Act funding

Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star the state Senate has passed a budget resolution calling for the removal of approximately $36 million in funding from the Governor's Executive Budget proposal earmarked for the implementation of the NY SAFE Act. On Mon., Mar. 11, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said he will not entertain such a proposal as part of budget negotiations with state legislators. “I rule that out,” Cuomo said. State Senator Kathleen Marchione said she was in favor of cutting funds to support the gun control legislation. The amount targeted by the resolution included funds for a new statewide gun permit database and for police agencies to handle new permit applications.
