Manhattan grand jury indicts Skelos, son

William K. Rashbaum is reporting in The New York Times Dean G. Skelos, the former majority leader of the state Senate, and his son, Adam B. Skelos, were indicted Thu., May 28, on charges of extortion, wire fraud, conspiracy and bribe solicitation. The allegations contained in the six-count indictment handed up in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan largely followed those contained the criminal complaint used as the basis for the pair's arrest on May 4. The indictment contained an additional allegation, however: That the senator secured more than $100,000 in payments and health benefits from a medical malpractice insurer that provided his son with a no-show job, all while the insurer lobbied the senator on legislative matters.The grand jury’s action against Skelos and his son moves the corruption case toward trial.
