Tesla, car dealers reach NY agreement

Mar 29, 2014 12:36 am
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced an agreement March 28 between Tesla Motors, the New York State Automobile Dealers Association, and the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association, so that the electric cars the company makes can be sold in the state. Tesla Motors can continue to sell cars at their five licensed retail locations in New York State, an announcement said, and "additional Tesla retail locations will be established under a strengthened dealer franchise law. Legislation to implement the agreement will be introduced with the support of leadership in the Senate and Assembly." Few details of the agreement were announced. Tesla locations include White Plains, Mount Kisco, and others downstate. The car manufacturer would prefer to get around the traditional car dealership model, but has been stymied around the country by lobbyists for current car dealers.
