Nov 05, 2014 7:34 am
Casey Seiler is reporting at Capitol Confidential Republicans took sole control of the state Senate following Tues., Nov. 4, with candidates from the Hudson Valley to Rochester picking up enough wins to attain the required 32-vote majority. Republican George Amedore defeated Democratic state Sen. Cecilia Tkaczyk (KAT-chik). The outcome was a dramatic reversal in a rematch of the state’s tightest race two years ago. As of midnight Wednesday, Amedore led Tkaczyk by approximately 11,000 votes in the five-county, 46th Senate District. Elsewhere in the region, incumbent Republican senators Kathleen A. Marchione of Halfmoon and Hugh Farley of Niskayuna were re-elected over their Democratic challengers. Incumbent Democrat Neil Breslin, of Bethlehem, won a 10th term in the 44th Senate District unopposed. Read full election coverage at Capitol Confidential, a Times Union blog.
