Columbia Co. committee passes anti-SAFE resolution
Feb 27, 2013 6:28 am
Nathan Mayberg reports in the Register Star the Columbia County Board of Supervisors Government Committee voted Tues., Feb. 26, for the repeal of the NY SAFE Act. The resolution, passed on a vote of 6 to 2, stated the newly enacted gun control legislation will curtail a citizen's Second Amendment right to bear arms, and criticized how the law was approved -- with limited public notice, public debate or review by state lawmakers. The resolution stated the act also “increases the stigma on the mentally ill.” The measure will now move forward to the full board for consideration. According to Board of Supervisors Chairman Patrick Grattan, the resolution was written by the County Attorney’s Office based on similar resolutions passed by neighboring counties, along with input from Columbia County Human Services Director Michael Cole.
