Heavy rain washes sewage into North Bay

May 28, 2015 11:30 am
Arthur Cusano is reporting in the Register Star the Hudson sewage plant overflowed Wed., May 28, following the heavy thunderstorms that hit the area in the late afternoon. Hudson Department of Public Works Superintendent Robert Perry said approximately 50,000 to 100,000 gallons of a mix of partially treated sewage and storm water was washed into the city’s North Bay after the heavy rainfall flooded the plant. The actual amount released into the bay would not be known until Thursday when the electronic flow meters could be analyzed, Perry said. The sewage mix was still running into the bay as of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Perry said the problem has been ongoing. City officials are engaged in a debate over how best to proceed on its long-discussed plan to remedy the problem, which involves the potential separation of its storm water and sewage lines.
