This summer, Ailey II (the younger version of the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater) will visit Hudson for an exciting weekend of free community programming for all ages at the Hudson Area Library. To start the celebration, former Ailey Associate Artistic Director, Masazumi Chaya will participate in a panel discussion and film screening of the 2021 Ailey documentary, a beautiful portrait of legendary choreographer, Alvin Ailey. Then, professional dancers from Ailey II will lead two masterclass dance workshops for local Columbia County youth of various ages and skill levels. Finally, the Ailey II dancers will share a gorgeous public dance performance for all members of the community – a rare and wonderful opportunity to see some of the most talented dancers in the world, right here in Hudson. Three site-specific new works will be presented as a roving performance with audiences traveling by car to each secret location to experience these self-contained plays in environments that enhance their stories. The Ancram Opera House has commissioned two new works: one by Mukta Phatak, featuring Abuzar Farrukh, and another by New York-based cabaret artist, writer, and actor Salty Brine. The event will also premier a work by playwright and poet Barbara Wiechmann. At each play location, blankets and some seating will be provided. Audiences are also welcome to bring their own seating, if preferred, or to stand. All three plays are presented at each show. Audience capacity is limited. The performance times are Thursday (Aug. 17) and Friday (Aug. 18) at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.; Saturday (Aug. 19) and Sunday (Aug. 20) at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6 p.m. Note: the 5 p.m., Saturday show includes dinner. Atabeya, Kitani, and DJ Shaman Vybez perform live at the Avalon Lounge in Catskill with a live webstream of the entire show from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at wgxc.org/listen, and from 8-9 p.m. will be broadcast on 90.7-FM.

Atabeya: A spicy blend of roots music with a fresh outlook. Pulling influence from many styles of the diaspora of the Americas and West Africa including Haitian Jazz, Cumbia, Afro-Beat, Bachata, Saharan Blues mixed with Funk and psychedelic sounds.

An immersive, multi-media performance installation of aerial acrobatics, photography, and projected video, and electronic music by Noémie Goudal and Maelle Poesy. Fresh from the Venice Biennale 2023 and Tate Modern, ANIMA alters our perspectives on the “sensation of time” and the pace and effects of climate change. An immersive multidisciplinary installation by French visual artist/photographer Noémie Goudal, theater director Maëlle Poésy, circus artist Chloé Moglia, and composer Chloé Thévenin, Anima sits at the crossroads of visual, photographic, musical, video, and scenic arts. The work is grounded in the artists' interest in recent discoveries in paleoclimatology, the study of ancient climate, whereby researchers are able to make projections about the future based on the metamorphoses and mutations that occurred in the distant past. These extreme mutations of terrestrial topography are imperceptible to the human gaze. Through the medium of images of palm trees, rocks, caves, and water in continual metamorphosis projected onto a triptych of giant screens, Goudal and Poésy confront the viewer with an experience of human impermanence. Thevenin’s music, a mix of electronics and recordings of sounds of flowing water, winds, and wildlife coalesces with the images to create a sense of the fragility of landscapes, the power of the elements, and the vertiginous nature of time.

Wave Farm is delighted to announce that Lia Kohl will serve as Wave Farm's Radio Art Fellow September - November 2023. During her engagement, Kohl will make additions to the Wave Farm Broadcast Radio Art Archive online resource and to the syndicated weekly radio show "The Radio Art Hour." Kohl will also conduct workshops and listening sessions with WGXC programmers and interested members of the public, and create original radio artworks for broadcast.

Lia Kohl is a composer, cellist, and sound artist based in Chicago. Her wide-ranging practice includes solo composition and performance, installation, improvisation, and collaboration. Kohl tours nationally and internationally, working in theater, jazz, rock, and experimental contexts. Her work centers curiosity and patience, an exploration of the mundane and profound possibilities of sound.

An immersive, multi-media performance installation of aerial acrobatics, photography, and projected video, and electronic music by Noémie Goudal and Maelle Poesy. Fresh from the Venice Biennale 2023 and Tate Modern, ANIMA alters our perspectives on the “sensation of time” and the pace and effects of climate change. An immersive multidisciplinary installation by French visual artist/photographer Noémie Goudal, theater director Maëlle Poésy, circus artist Chloé Moglia, and composer Chloé Thévenin, Anima sits at the crossroads of visual, photographic, musical, video, and scenic arts. The work is grounded in the artists' interest in recent discoveries in paleoclimatology, the study of ancient climate, whereby researchers are able to make projections about the future based on the metamorphoses and mutations that occurred in the distant past. These extreme mutations of terrestrial topography are imperceptible to the human gaze. Through the medium of images of palm trees, rocks, caves, and water in continual metamorphosis projected onto a triptych of giant screens, Goudal and Poésy confront the viewer with an experience of human impermanence. Thevenin’s music, a mix of electronics and recordings of sounds of flowing water, winds, and wildlife coalesces with the images to create a sense of the fragility of landscapes, the power of the elements, and the vertiginous nature of time.

Lia Kohl is a composer, cellist, and sound artist based in Chicago. Her wide-ranging practice includes solo composition and performance, installation, improvisation, and collaboration. Kohl tours nationally and internationally, working in theater, jazz, rock, and experimental contexts. Her work centers curiosity and patience, an exploration of the mundane and profound possibilities of sound.

Lucid Dream Minigolf is a traveling, existential, heartfelt, pop-up minigolf course and interactive theater piece. Our last stop of the tour is Athens Cultural Center. The exhibit will be installed in Athens Saturday and Sundays 12-5 p.m. until 9/17. This piece explores how silly can be sentimental, how whimsy can be deep. It’s the power of transcendental humanism informed by cognitive science of imagination translated through the gonzo-absurdity of putt-putt meditation. This game isn't what you think it is and neither is your life… It's more beautiful and connected than we realize.

In person, Hudson Area Library Community Room. Learn various Qigong sets and then work on a traditional Tai Chi Form - a set series of movements and postures - with instructor Curt Anthon, a member of the Yang Family Tai Chi Association. This is a gentle practice that enhances coordination, balance and circulation. No registration required. All are welcome.

Wave Farm's Art Park is now open. Drop-in unannounced for guided tours on Saturdays, or book a tour in advance on other days.

Wave Farm's 29-acre campus in Acra, NY is home to our public Art Park featuring 13 installations, the Study Center including a Research Library, the WGXC 90.7-FM Acra broadcast studio, and accommodations for Wave Farm's international artist Residency Program. Visitors to Wave Farm receive a guided tour of our campus. Admission is free, and tours typically last 60-90 minutes.
