Interview by Tom Roe.
Katherine Nadeau joined Environmental Advocates of New York in January 2007 to oversee our Water & Natural Resources Program. Since joining Environmental Advocates, Katherine led the campaign for the passage of the Hudson Valley Community Preservation Act (enacted in 2007) and was instrumental in garnering support for The Great Lakes Compact (enacted in 2008). She currently leads our work on protecting and restoring the Great Lakes, and water quality issues including monitoring water pollution permits and issues related to gas drilling in New York.
Prior to joining Environmental Advocates, Katherine worked as a consultant and community organizer for the Onondaga Nation, a sovereign Native American nation whose homelands lie in Central New York. She assisted the Nation in their ongoing work to ensure a complete cleanup of Onondaga Lake—a sacred lake for the Onondaga Nation and Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy, as well as a federal Superfund site. Katherine has also worked as an organizer, community outreach director and legislative associate with the New York Public Interest Research Group, and as an organizer for the Working Families Party.
