free103point9 provides live audio and video of rehearsals for the new Richard Foreman play every Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on free103point9 Online Radio. Richard Foreman's latest production uses digital material filmed in Japan and England and takes place on a stage in New York in which everything is askew -- the windows, the walls (covered with turn of the century photographs) and the furniture, which includes two pianos. Even the large screens on which images are projected are off kilter. Within this setting, the mind is asked to jump from world to world, Japan to England, filmed world to live stage world.

Plunging deeper than ever into ravishing abstract theater, Richard Foreman evokes the atmosphere of a séance, combining the tableaus filmed in Japan and England with five live New York actors who navigate a sinking grand piano.

Damian Catera performs, "Strategies Against Communication: The Semiotics of The Headless Dachshund (for tremor_4 <Live.Doc> festival)." This 45-minute live, online sound performance is the latest in a series of pieces which explore and realign the relationship between the components of the linguistic sign: signifier and signified. More specifically, it functions as an examination of the dynamic relationship between text (content) and emotion (expression). It is my belief that our cognition of information and negotiation of meaning is largely based on the interdependence of these two elements. Poet GE Schwartz and performance artist Abbey Brace will be special guest vocalists. The text component of this performance piece is appropriated from an internet community discussion forum in Jersey City, New Jersey. The text is from a discussion thread about an unsubstantiated account of a dachshund, who’s head was allegedly bitten off during an attack by an off-leash pitbull, and the subsequent neighborhood outrage over the rumored event.

As in previous Strategies pieces, the appropriated text is cut up and randomly reassigned to one of a variety emotional states for recitation. For this version, the text fragments will be randomly aligned to the various synthetic voices of the Mac OS and will be recited by the computer itself.

I find online discussion forums to be interesting on a variety of levels. At their best, they can be tools for community building and at their worst, they can be vehicles of mass hysteria and harassment. Participants in these communities create their own online identities as an extension of themselves, yet also construct the personalities of the other participants based on their own negotiations of signified and signifier. Participants my never actually meet but have created these very specific identity constructions of the people that they communicate with.

Aside from the formal/ semiotic explorations of appropriated text, this piece implicitly functions as a critique of the inherent limitations of language and the internet as communication technologies.

Specially commissioned by PERFORMA Radio, this collaborative radio work by British artist Ryan Gander and New York-based collective Dexter Sinister merges the script of a TV pilot with the form of a radio play. Interspersed with musical elements, 8 voices read from a script for a TV pilot written by the artists (and recently published as the book "Appendix Appendix"). A selection of Gander's earlier sound works are also incorporated within the script to become part of the radio play. Continuing the path of one medium wandering into another -- a TV pilot into a radio play -- radio merges with physical space, and the live broadcast is complemented by a performative presentation with a live audience in real space, filled with old radios all tuned to the program. PERFORMA 07, the second visual art performance biennial, will take place this year from October 27 - November 20, 2007, in New York, with an expanded roster of consortium members, ten major new PERFORMA Commissions, a lively and event driven educational program, and a focus on several new themes, including the relationship between the avant-garde dance and art worlds, with visual art projects that include choreographic precepts as material for art. An exciting four week program of performances, exhibitions, film, screenings, lectures and symposia, as well as PERFORMA TV and PERFORMA Radio, PERFORMA 07 has been organized in collaboration with 30 leading cultural institutions and their curators across the city to provide audiences with an overview of contemporary visual art performance. With more than 90 participating artists, PERFORMA07 will articulate a broad range of ideas and sensibilities across disciplines and media. Building on the important era of downtown New York of the Sixties and Seventies, when the area was a beacon for the newest developments in dance, film, music and visual arts, this second biennial re-imagines the past, with historical reconstructions such as Allan Kaprow's legendary "18 Happenings in Six Parts," and also looks to the future, with its focus on new media and the infinite possibilities of generating new directions for the visual and performing arts of the new century.

Pablo Cueto from Teatro Tinglado performs the toy theatre production "Troka el Poderoso." Set in the 1930's, "Troka el Poderoso" is the technological fable of a robot created by German List-Arzubide, a Mexican writer. Hooykaas/Stansfield have been creating audio/video installations for over 30 years; since the death of Elsa Stansfield in 2004, Madelon has continued to develop their range of ideas; she will show a new project -'Haiku, the art of the present moment', a 2 channel audio/video installation inspired by the Japanese classic book 'the Narrow Road to the Far North' - a pilgrimage on foot, written by the haiku poet Basho; projected on a special screen, the combination of video images of the four seasons, sounds of nature and music played by the shakuhachi constantly varies.

Marcus Schmickler (Cologne, Germany) His latest algorithmic composition, applying different microtonal scales onto various models of granular synthesis and chaotic functions.

The New York-based composer presents recent work for instruments, signal processing, playback devices, speech and gesture; he is performing with his ensemble Object Collection.

A solo laptop performance, mainly based on works from recent CD publications which he takes apart and reassembles in a quasi-improvised, live context.

In this second Radio Lab workshop with students in Julianne Swartz's sculpture class, students will be presenting kinetic and performative objects that they've created following a Radio Lab and tour of free103point9 Wave Farm on October 16, 2007.
