Mar 12, 2020 2:42 pm
Steve Hughes, Lauren Stanforth, and Mike Goodwin report in the Times Union that two Albany County residents now have the COVID-19 illness. There are also three cases in Saratoga County, two cases in Ulster County, and one in both Schenectady College and Orange County as of March 12. Both cases in Albany County are younger people, and one has ties to the University of Albany. Both are isolating at home. "We're alarmed, because (the patients) did not travel," Albany County Executive Dan McCoy said. The University of Albany suspended classes March 12. "Also, as a precaution, we are closing the business building today for cleaning," a statement from the school reads. "Faculty and staff who work in this building are advised to work from home today. For those employees who work in the business building and choose to report to work, please go to the University Hall lobby to be provided with an alternative work location." Albany County Health Commissioner Elizabeth Whalen said that with more testing now in the county they are likely to uncover more cases. As of March 10, there were five people in Albany County under mandatory isolation and 20 people in precautionary isolation. Read more about this story in the Times Union.
