The Times Union is reporting the skull found last month by a hiker along the Hudson River in the Vosburgh Swamp in Coxsackie is believed to be that of a boy between 10 and 13 years old, the state Department of Environmental Conservation said Mon., Mar. 6. The remains had been exposed to the elements for five to 10 years. An anthropologist who examined a photograph of the skull made the determination. Additional testing will provide a better estimate of its age, the DEC said. State Police, Greene County sheriffs and DEC personnel searched the Wildlife Management Area off Four Mile Point Road for clues after the skull was found on Feb. 27. At the time, a spokesman for the Greene County Sheriff's Office said it was not known if the skull was human, how it got there or how long it had been at that location. The Post-Star of Glens Falls is reporting followup tests were to be performed to try to extract DNA from the bones to compare to evidence in missing persons cases, including that of missing Greenwich boy Jaliek Rainwalker.
