Amtrak service expected to be fully restored Friday
Eric Anderson is reporting in the Times Union the train derailment Mon., Apr. 3, at Penn Station in Manhattan continues to complicate travel in the Northeast. In the Capital Region, Amtrak says it will continue operating on a modified schedule between Albany and New York City as crews repair the damage caused by the New Jersey Transit train derailment. Amtrak will operate two fewer trains in each direction between Albany and New York City on Thursday. Southbound departures from Albany at 5:05 a.m. and 1:05 p.m. have been canceled. Northbound departures from Penn Station at 2:20 p.m. and 5:47 p.m. are also cancelled. Amtrak passengers are advised to check the railroad's app or website for the latest information on train status. The derailment Monday was the second to occur in less than two weeks at Penn Station. On March 24, an Amtrak Acela Express train derailed and hit a New Jersey Transit train at the station. No injuries were reported, but passengers faced delays and cancellations. The two derailments have also led to the cancellation of dozens of trains operated by New Jersey Transit and the Long Island Rail Road. Read the full story in the Times Union.
