The Greene County Public Health Department posted on a social media account Jan. 6 that vaccinations begin Jan. 7 at the Robert C. Antonelli Senior Center in Catskill. There will be coronavirus vaccinations there from noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 7 and Jan. 8. Only frontline healthcare workers, and emergency personnel are eligible for the first round of vaccines, and an appointment must be made at a New York Department of Health website. Meanwhile, Greene County announced 33 new COVID-19 cases and two more deaths on Jan. 6. Columbia County had 62 new cases Jan. 6, according to the state COVID tracker website Ulster County's COVID death toll grew by four on Jan. 6, with 118 new cases. Dutchess County had 189 new positive tests Jan. 6, while Rensselaer County added 134 new cases, and Albany County added 260. The Daily Freeman is reporting that the Hunter Mountain ski resort intends to reopen Jan. 8, after it was shutdown Jan. 5 because too many of its ski patrollers were out of work due to COVID-19. Late Jan. 6, Hunter tweeted: "We have been working with our team to ensure we will have sufficient safety personnel to operate beginning Friday morning. There is nothing simple about operating during a pandemic, but we are committed first and foremost to the safety of our employees and guests." Ski areas are having employees fill out daily phone app health screenings, and the resorts can curtail their food service, grooming, instructions and still remain open. But without a sufficient number of patrollers to care for injured skiers, or to unload a lift in the rare event that one stalls or breaks down, ski resorts cannot operate safely. In the reopening announcement, Hunter officials did not indicate whether any of the ski patrollers who were out had contact with skiers at the resort.
