New York Republicans move to Trump with new Chairperson Langworthy

May 30, 2019 12:22 am
Will Bredderman reports at Crain's New York that New York Republicans are moving toward more radical populism, rather than moderation, with a change in leadership. The party is moving away from former Chairperson Edward Cox, an Upper East Side-based son-in-law of Richard Nixon, for new Chairperson Nick Langworthy, who was on the executive committee of President Donald Trump's transition team. "This is a takeover of the party by people aligned with President Trump," said Staten Island Republican Councilperson Joseph Borelli. Republicans have not won a statewide race since 2002. Other Republicans note Langworthy does not have the same access to rich conservative donors that Cox enjoyed. Read more about this story at Crain's New York.
