Ben Garver at The Berkshire Eagle writes about the new 900-kilowatt Ameresco solar energy installation on the former Stockbridge landfill that may bring an estimated $60,000 a year in electricity cost savings from National Grid, and, over 20 years, to save more than $1 million in power and tax revenue. "This exciting project demonstrates Stockbridge's commitment to increasing the percentage of power we use from sustainable renewable energy solutions, with the added benefit of reducing what the town pays for electricity," said Stephen Shatz, a past Select Board chairperson of the western Massachusetts town. "This is a fantastic project, a win-win," current Select Board Chairperson Donald Chabon told local officials gathered near the solar array. "It takes a piece of unused land and we're using it in a productive and environmentally positive way by generating clean electricity going back into the system."
