Melanie Lekocevic reports for Capital Region Independent Media in the Greenville Pioneer that earlier this month 30 volunteers tore down grape vines, cleared brush, removed old fencing, and generally cleaned up a former tennis court behind the Greenville Public Library where the town council is looking to put a skateboard and bike park. “I think it will be a good project once it gets going,” said Travis Richards, who is on the town board. “It will give kids something else to do after school, something other than the school curriculum and sports. There are kids who are not into sports, but are more into skateboarding and BMX biking. This will be good for them, especially since it is so close to the schools — they can just come down here with their skateboards and bikes and have a good time.” Cunningham’s Funeral Home donated the land to the town more than 20 years ago, and it has been unused since. The ramps and other equipment for the skateboard and bike park are also being donated, by Paula Spahmer. Her son purchased them for a skateboard park in Westerlo, that never came to fruition.
