Coeymans officials sent cow dung-filled parcels

Melanie Lekocevic is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media an anonymous person or persons last week sent packages of cow dung to individual public officials in Coeymans. Packages were received November 18, by outgoing Town Supervisor Philip Crandall, Deputy Town Supervisor Tom Dolan, town board member James Youmans and former Democratic town council candidate Michael McGuire, in addition to a member of the Conservation Advisory Council and an unidentified resident in the hamlet. “All were people who were vocal supporters of ours and support the same things we support at town board meetings,” Dolan said. The packages were sent anonymously through Poop Senders, an internet-based company. The parcels have been turned over the Coeymans Police Department. “This is really a new low in local politics, as far as I am concerned,” Dolan said. “I don’t mind people disagreeing with me or yelling at me, but town employees shouldn’t have to deal with this.” Dolan said for the past several months he has received “threatening messages on Facebook,” people parking outside his house and honking their horn disruptively, and shining bright lights through his windows at night. Dolan said it is not clear what prompted the incidents, although he noted the harassment campaign started after the town board passed the Clean Air Law, a measure that puts stricter regulations on large-scale waste burning within the town of Coeymans.
