Hunter considers solar moratorium

Nov 29, 2018 12:21 am
Daniel Zuckerman reports for Columbia-Greene Media that Hunter is the latest town exploring a solar moratorium to give town planners time to update solar regulations. Hunter holds a public hearing on a proposed three-month moratorium on development and construction of new solar projects at 6 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Hunter Town Hall. Hunter Town Councilperson David Kukle wants the planning board to have time to consider new rules. “We can have a direction for where the community is going to go in terms of land,” Kukle said. A solar project is before the town for the former landfill on Hylan Road in Tannersville, including a payment in lieu of taxes for Solitude Solar, a credit purchase agreement, and state Community Solar Facility Decommissioning plan, all of which must be reviewed by Town Attorney Larry Gardner. Hunter Town Supervisor Daryl Legg says the solar project will help offset the costs of maintaining the landfill. “It’s a win-win for us in more than one way,” Legg said. “We have a unique situation where our landfill is probably going to be perpetual in nature because of the amount of water that runs through it.” Read the full story at HudsonValley360.com.
