Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Hudson Common Council will vote Tue., March 19, on a resolution to support the expansion of the Emergency Tenant Protection Act statewide. The resolution calls on Hudson’s representatives in Albany to “strike the geographical restrictions from the ETPA so that local governments can take an active role addressing the cost of rental housing,” according to the resolution. Columbia County is one of 54 counties in New York without rent stabilization guaranteed under the act. Under that law, landlords are subject to regulated rent increases, and tenants have the right to renewal leases. A local board determines the annual allowable rental increases. The legislation was enacted in 1974, and expires this year, giving lawmakers the opportunity to improve and expand it.
