SnowFlow: Suzanne Thorpe and Miguel Frasconi (Audio)

Feb 12, 2011
Recorded and webcast live by Sam Sebren and Tom Roe.

On February 12, 2011 at the Full Moon resort in Big Indian, NY, a variety of organizations and individuals interested in creativity and sustainability gathered and collaborated for a weekend of events combining art, music, food from local farms, and outdoor activities like shelter building and snowshoeing, to create a forum to bring attention to peak water and peak foodshed issues. Suzanne Thorpe curated a thought-provoking evening of performances which were recorded and broadcast live by Sam Sebren and Tom Roe for free103point9 and WGXC.

Suzanne Thorpe is a performer, composer, educator and arts-activist. As an electro-acoustic flutist she extends her instrument with an ever-evolving line-up of analog and digital tools. As an improviser she has performed with Chris Brown, Pauline Oliveros, Fred Frith, Gino Robair, Zeena Parkins, Ulrich Krieger, Zbigniew Karkosky, Anti-Matter, Michael Schumacher, Bonnie Jones, Philip White, Shelley Burgon, Maria Chavez, Stephan Moore and others. She is a founding member of critically acclaimed Mercury Rev, and can be heard on J Mascis' upcoming solo record Several Shades of Why.

Miguel Frasconi uses glass objects, eletronics, and "de-evolved" instruments to create music from a uniquely imagined tradition. His glass instruments are struck, blown, stroked and coaxed into vibration. Miguel has worked closely with composers John Cage, Jon Hassell, James Tenney, Morton Subotnick, and dance pioneer Anna Halprin. He was a founding member of the new music ensemble The Glass Orchestra.
