The Daily Freeman reports that a police officer in Walton, in Delaware County, killed a 66-year-old man while responding to a mental health call on Oct. 4. Police won't reveal the name of the officer that shot Paul J. Weeden at about 3:30 a.m. at a residence on Griswold Street in Walton. State police claim Weeden pointed at the officer, who thought he had a gun as they spoke. Police claim the officer first retreated, and Weeden followed him and ignored commands to drop the weapon. Weeden was declared dead on the scene. The state police and the state Attorney General’s Office, are investigating the case as they do with all deaths at the hands of police in New York state.
