Cuomo wants permanent property tax cap

Mar 02, 2019 12:25 am
Chris McKenna reports at The Fray that Gov. Andrew Cuomo toured the state Feb. 28 and March 1 touting the need to make the state’s eight-year-old cap on property-tax increases permanent. The third-term, Democratic governor signed the tax cap that limits tax levy growth to two percent per year or the inflation rate unless overridden by a school or government board during his first year in office. Republicans in Albany have crusaded for a permanent cap for years. “We have a responsibility to make the property tax cap permanent this year,” Republican Assemblyperson Colin Schmitt said. “The property tax cap single-handedly has been the most successful tool in state history in stemming property tax growth. We need to ensure that the tax cap is made permanent for the entire state.” Read the full story at The Fray.
