Ichabod Crane residents to vote on $27M capital project

Dec 06, 2018 12:15 pm
Emilia Teasdale is reporting for The Columbia Paper on the informational session presented last month by the Ichabod Crane school board about its proposed $27 million capital improvement project. District voters will be asked to approve a referendum to fund the project on December 12. The $27 million price tag includes projects in all three school buildings, the bus garage and the maintenance building as well as the construction of a connector road between the middle and primary school buildings. The scope of the proposed work are based on a facilities study, which suggested the district needed more than $40 million of upgrades and repairs. The proposal includes upgrades to all three wings at the middle school, classroom upgrades and new lockers at the high school. Bullet resistant film and more secure greeter windows would be installed at the entrances to all three district buildings. There is also a plan to update the fire alarm systems at the middle and primary schools and to build new bleachers at the athletic fields. If approved by the voters, and the state Education Department, work would begin in 2020. Polls will be open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., December 12, in the high school gym. The board did not set a snow date for the vote. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
