Athens sewer plant nearly complete

Melanie Lekocevic reports in The Daily Mail the $3.2 million Village of Athens sewer plant project is nearly complete, but it is still unknown when the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will lift its 11-year old order of consent, The DEC found the viIlage system to be out of compliance with state law and issued the order in 2001. It required capital improvements to the plant and imposed a moratorium on new connections to the existing system, effectively halting significant development within the village. Construction on the new plant began in 2011. Work on the upgraded facility is expected to be completed in June. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
